The aim of intervention stocks is to stabilise the price level of agricultural products. Intervention methods include purchases of intervention stocks, storage and sale of products back to the market.

In Finland, products bought in for the EU's intervention stock include cereals, skimmed milk powder, butter and, by a separate decision of the EU, barley and other agricultural products.
